THEISM, ATHEISM, BUDDHISM AND SCIENCE: A BUDDHIST PERSPECTIVE
DO PEOPLE REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY BELIEVE? DISBELIEF IS ALSO A FORM OF BELIEF. Is the image of God as a man in the sky with a beard an allegorical one? Or is it a literal image? Many Christians believe it is literal; some believe that God is an essence, a force that can take many shapes and forms. If we were to be honest we would realize that All religions speak and recite narratives that are based on Allegory, Metaphor and Simile. Why is this? It is simply because we do not have the level of perception with our senses nor the neurological structure in our brains to even begin to grasp the ultimate reality. We therefore have no choice but to use such methods. Many people however believe that those Metaphors and Similes are in fact literal descriptions.
