THEISM, ATHEISM, BUDDHISM AND SCIENCE: A BUDDHIST PERSPECTIVE

DO PEOPLE REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY BELIEVE? DISBELIEF IS ALSO A     FORM OF BELIEF.

Is the image of God as a man in the sky with a beard an allegorical one? Or is it a literal image? Many Christians believe it is literal; some believe that God is an essence, a force that can take many shapes and forms.

If we were to be honest we would realize that All religions speak and recite narratives that are based on Allegory, Metaphor and Simile. Why is this? It is simply because we do not have the level of perception with our senses nor the neurological structure in our brains to even begin to grasp the ultimate reality. We therefore have no choice but to use such methods. Many people however believe that those Metaphors and Similes are in fact literal descriptions.

The Second President of the Lay Buddhist organization Soka Gakkai said that as science progresses it will come to agree with Buddhism and Buddhist thought.

Seeking Truth is a constant battle, not just in Buddhism but in every endeavour. People form beliefs along the way, and people have ingrained beliefs based on their upbringing, their personalities and their interaction with other people and the environment. Most new viewpoints will be rejected, some violently. Especially when their identities are intertwined with those beliefs.
Some people will wish to cause harm to those of different beliefs. No strong or legitimate belief will require violence to those who oppose that belief.

The Buddha deals with the concept of time in the lifespan chapter.

People go through their lives completely convinced that they have a correct view of reality.
